Why COSMO-Check?

Viral skincare hacks spread faster than good science. Dermatologists are seeing more burns, pigment problems, and barrier damage from DIY trends — and there’s no simple way for people to check if a trend is safe for their skin. COSMO-Check is here to change that.

Problem

Viral doesn’t mean safe

People copy beauty trends from TikTok and Instagram without knowing the risk. Aesthetic filters hide real skin damage until it’s too late.

Problem

Derm visits after the damage

Dermatologists often only see patients after burns, peeling, and dark marks have already appeared. Most of this harm was preventable.

Solution

Safety checks before you try it

COSMO-Check gives you a clear risk score, expert insights, and safer alternatives before you put anything on your skin.

How COSMO-Check works

1. Search a trend or routine

Type in a viral hack (“microneedling with vitamin C”, “slugging, “skin cycling”) or paste a product combo you’re thinking of using.

2. We analyze risk

Our engine combines ingredient data, dermatology literature, real-world harm reports, and expert reviews to compute a COSMO-Risk Score tailored to your skin profile.

3. You get a clear answer

See how risky the trend is, what could go wrong, what dermatologists say, and which safer alternatives you can try instead.

What COSMO-Check does for you

A calm, science-driven guide in a world of loud beauty advice. COSMO-Check is built to be useful on day one, even before the full app launches.

Trend Safety Scanner

Search any trend or hack and see a COSMO-Risk Score, a simple safety label, and a breakdown of the most common skin issues linked to it.

Ingredient Interaction Checker

Enter products or ingredients and instantly see if the combo is likely to irritate, over-exfoliate, or increase sun sensitivity.

Personalized Skin Profile

Tell us your skin type, tone, and sensitivities so we can highlight trends that are especially risky (or safe) for your skin.

Safe Alternatives

Instead of just “don’t do this,” COSMO-Check suggests gentler, evidence-based options you can discuss with your dermatologist or try yourself.

For Dermatologists: COSMO-Derm Network

COSMO-Check isn’t just algorithms. We’re building COSMO-Derm, a network of verified dermatologists who review viral trends, rate safety, and help shape harm-reduction guidance seen by thousands of users.

Review & rate viral trends

Access a dashboard of emerging skincare hacks, product misuse patterns, and user-reported injuries. Add your safety rating, short comments, and safer-alternative suggestions.

Example consensus card users see:
“Dermatologists recommend avoiding this trend (1.4/5 safety rating).”

FAQ

A few quick answers while we build.

Is COSMO-Check a replacement for my dermatologist?
No. COSMO-Check is a safety and education tool, not a diagnosis or treatment service. It’s designed to help you avoid preventable harm and have better conversations with your dermatologist.
How does the COSMO-Risk Score work?
The score is a 0–100 scale combining ingredient safety data, evidence from dermatology, real-world harm reports, and (in the future) dermatologist reviews. It’s meant to be easy to interpret: 0–25 safe, 26–50 use caution, 51–75 risky, 76–100 high damage potential.
Will COSMO-Check tell me what products to buy?
The focus is on safety, not selling. We’ll suggest safer categories or routines (“gentle exfoliant,” “SPF 30+ daily”), and in the future may curate evidence-based options with transparent criteria.
Is COSMO-Check built for all skin tones?
Yes. Preventing hyperpigmentation and barrier damage in deeper skin tones is a core design principle. We aim to highlight how risk differs by skin type and tone, and to bring in dermatologists with expertise in skin of color.
When will the app be available?
We’re in the early build and validation phase. Join the waitlist to be the first to know about beta access and launch timelines.
